Parish Millennium Map

The map of the Parish of Landulph evolved from a previous project and is the result of the endeavours of many people.

In 1996 a group of people, encouraged by Reg Rice, got together to collect information about the Parish. Those involved included Andrew Barrett, Jenny Turnage, Janet Cambridge, Diane Willows, Marcia Pirie and Mandy Martin of Cornwall County Council. Much historical information was collected from Parishioners, Landowners and Tenant Farmers of Landulph and was used as the basis of the booklet 'Walks Around Landulph'.

This provides a guide to the footpaths and byways of the parish and has been very well recieved. Copies can still be obtained from the Parish Council Footpath Officer.

So much information had been gathered that a meeting was held to consider further Parish projects. Marcia & Jenny suggested producing a decorative map of the Parish incorporating the historical information which had been gathered.

Alrod Macleod, recently returned to Landulph, offered the use of her spare room as a work centre - this became known as 'The Map Room'.

Many forms and styles were considered - cross-stitched, tiled, booklet, poster, painting....the possibilities seemed endless. Eventually it was decided that a poster would allow easy reproduction to make the result widely available.

For over a year the 'map room' was open house on Wednesday mornings to many people. The core team of Marcia Pirie, Elizabeth Crowley, Mary Spence, Pamela Clayton,and Alrod Macleod were all there most weeks, using their artistic skills to great advantage.

The map went through many changes as fragements of painting, drawing and writing were woven into the design with many changes until the final picture was ready for the printers.

The production costs were funded by the Parish Council. Sale of the finished maps enabled all the costs to be recovered and the surplus was fed back into the Parish Millennium funds.  A poster of the map can be purchased from the Parish Council Footpath Officer.
