Landulph Orchard Green
Introduction
In 2022, two fields near Landulph Church were made available by the Duchy of Cornwall via the tenant farmers, the Best family at Marsh Farm, for a Community Orchard.
A grant from Farming in Protected Landscapes (FIPL) was received for 60 trees and fencing of the site. Following a public consultation in early 2023, a working group of Landulph Parish Council was set up to manage the project. The Working Group reports to the Parish Council on a monthly basis with recommendations for approval by the Parish Council. These reports can be viewed on the Working Group page of the Parish Council website.
In May 2023, an online survey was conducted. Although there were only 21 responses, there were many suggestions about the ambience of the fields and the things should be included. See link below for results of survey.

Visit by Landulph School - 3 July 2026
The children of Landulph School (55 children) visited Duchess Green on 3 July 2026 with five members of staff. The children worked in groups of 11 children to work on six challenges loosely related to Citizen Science with nine volunteers helping the children:
- Pond wildlife - recording the wildlife in and on the pond
- Using a compass - following a route using a compass
- Exploring the mound - investigating the impact of gradient
- Grassland plants & bugs - recording the wildlife in a metre square
- Miyawaki measuring - investigating how much the trees have grown
- Habitat identification - identifying wildlife living in different habitats
The children also took some photos to enter in the Landulph Climate Group Wildlife Photography Competition. Additional equipment and identification guides was borrowed from the Tamar Valley Centre.
Duke Orchard
The first field above the church, Duke Orchard (///harmless.tanked.proved), is primarily an orchard containing about 60 apple, pear, plum, cherry, damson and nut trees. Planting was completed in March 2024 and in time we hope it will look like this. There is a firm path from Church Lane to a picnic area with seating and a lovely view of the church. The grass between the trees will be left long in summer to encourage wild flowers to grow but with mown paths between the trees and additional seating areas.
The official opening was on 27 April 2024.

Weather in Duchess Green
We have installed a Accur8 DWS7100 weather station in Duchess Green which is sending a weather report to weathercloud.net every 10 minutes. Weathercloud is a free website that shares reports from weather stations around the world. The nearest one to ours is in Saltash. One of the problems with it being free is that there are lots of adverts on the site - you need to be very careful if you sign up (which is free) that you don't accidentally sign up to an advert.
However, the little graphic below shows you the latest reading from Duchess Green without logging in. At present we are still configuring this but do talk to the LOG committee if you have questions or thoughts.
Counting the Trees in Spring 2026
Over 350 trees have been planted by volunteers in Landulph Orchard Green over the last 2 years. In spring 2026, we examined and catalogued all the trees.
Wildlife Camera in Use
Cameras are installed in Duchess Green and Duke Orchard for the purpose of monitoring and recording wildlife:
- cameras do not stream live data and only record when triggered by nearby activity;
- direct access to the camera is limited to Landulph Parish Council;
- the cameras are positioned to minimise the likelihood of people appearing on any recording;
- recordings and still photographs from the cameras are only published once they have been checked for personal data;
If you have questions about the equipment in use in Landulph Orchard Green, please contact Landulph Parish Council at clerk@landulphparishcouncil.gov.uk.
