Landulph Orchard Green

Dragonflies in Duchess Green

The dragonflies on the pond in Duchess Green are being monitored by the British Dragonfly Society.  According to the recorder we met on 15 June 2026, he has recorded the following dragonflies.

Damselflies

The body is delicate and small, the flight is weak and it usually rests with wings together (lots of interesting details on the BDS site).  The following have been spotted:

Common Blue Damselfly

Azure Damselfly (YouTube video)

Large Red Damselfly

Dragonflies

The body is large and robust, the eyes are large and they tend to rest with their wings open (lots more information on the BDS site).  The following have been spotted:

Broad-bodied Chaser - I spotted a female laying eggs as in this YouTube video

The male has a blue abdomen with yellow spots on the side and the female and immature males have a golden-brown abdomen with paler spots on the sides (as in the picture).

Common Red Darter

Emperor Dragonfly
