Panel a: Introduction

Landulph ... past, present and future

Welcome to a celebration of the place and the people who combine to make Landulph the unique environment it is at the end of the 20th Century. Many significant changes have occurred in the Parish during the last hundred years. We are very fortunate to have photographic records that show the effect these changes have had on Parish life.

This exhibition however goes further by capturing the young and the old, those whose families have been here for generations and the recent arrivals, people at work and at play. As we look back at the past so future generations will look back at us and the way we lived and see that we tried to preserve the character of the Parish of Landulph - we hope and trust that they find that we succeeded.

Produced just in time to be included in this exhibition is this beautifully illustrated map of the parish. It is the work of many people, all of whom must be congratulated on such a wonderful achievement.

Organised by the Landulph 2000 Association, this historical photograph of 265 members of the community was taken in the summer of 1999. The sale of copies helped to raise funds for other millennium projects - the time capsule, the gift for each child, the memorial tree, the party on the eve of the millennium and this photographic record of the parish.

This photograph, taken in October 1999, clearly shows how the Tamar's deep water channel enabled Cargreen to become the thriving fishing and mercantile port it was in days gone by, thus bringing prosperity to the whole of the Landulph parish.

Living in the parish today are at least two families comprising four generations. Doris Richards, who at 94 is our oldest inhabitant, her son Barry, grandson Darrin and great-grandaughter Bethany are all members of one such family.

Another family whose combined lives nearly span the whole century consists of Win Rutherford 82 together with her son Les, grandson Stuart and great-grandaughters Samantha and Hanna.
