I was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire in 1930. I attended Junior, Senior Schools there and then 2 years at the County Commercial College. In 1946 I started employment at a Solicitors' office where I stayed until l961, shortly before my son was born. When my son started school I got a job part time as School Secretary at an Infants school so that I could get all the school holidays with him, I started there in 1967 and stayed until 1992.
We stayed in Wednesbury until 1972 when we moved to Walsall. After university my son joined the Navy and had an 8 year commission working in Hydrographic survey. He purchased a flat just off the Hoe and when he was away on long tours we came down every 2/3 weeks to check on things and came to love the south west. When he came out of the Navy he obtained a job in hydragraphic survey with a private company. His partner moved down here and shortly before the birth of my grandson they bought a house in Mannamead. Shortly after my grandson was born my husband's mother died and we decided to move to be nearer the family. After looking for 6 months we finally found Stonecot and moved in October 1997. Cargreen was such a lively welcoming village we soon found that we loved the place.
We joined Good Companions, and became members of Landulph Church, we held cream teas and had Bar-b-Qs to raise funds for the Church.

We joined the Garden Club and were first members of the Bowls Club. We were on the Committee of the Bowls Club and I became Secretary after l year. John became a Committee member of the Garden Club and for several years we were on the door for the annual Spring Show.

I also served as Secretary for Landulph Parish Church Council for 5 years. I am still on the Committee for Good Companions and meetings are held regularly at Stonecot.

The village has changed so much since we came in 1997, then there was a shop, pub, part time post office and a bus service. However the village is still a welcoming place and now I am on my own there is so much back up I don't feel lonely.
